Even the CGI was subpar in this episode. Carol was originally supposed to be a double agent, but Sony and Apple asked them to change it for a "better" conclusion. I'm concerned not only about the writers but also about the larger project's stakeholders.Guest wrote: ↑46 minutes agoI respect Rhea a lot and she again truthfully telegraph all of Carols actions and emotions that the writers put on page but this is the limitation of actors where they just have to act out whatever story writers tell no matter how absurd the arc might be. Rhea approaching every scene with emotional honesty and having perfect reasoning for it almost makes me believe in the writing but it still doesn't make Carol's ep 9 characterization any less out of character for me. It's just bad writing imo no matter how much genuine work and thought actors put behind it. Which is why I only criticize the writing. There is no rationalization for Carol to be confused at Hive loving every immune the same or Carol being caught suprised that hive doesn't love back the same ways humans do when she has been the one shouting that since beginning of the show. No amount of delusion or catching feelings give Carol just magical amnesia of everything she belived and held dear as principles until ep 8. It's just bad writing imo.Guest1212 wrote: ↑58 minutes agoThe layers and complexity in this show are amazing. The acting craft is next level.

Apple's Pluribus

x2 They’re so stupid cause this was such a better ending and sets up to still have interaction with he hive in season 2 I’m so mad actually ughGuest wrote: ↑31 minutes agoYeah, I agree the writing for that progression is one of the weaker parts of the season. What else do ya want me to say?Guest wrote: ↑38 minutes agoI want to be to be tongue and cheek and say he didn't sit through 7 hours of watching Carol be complete opposite of the instant 180 turn around Carol we got in ep 9 but my real issue is to buy she was led astray I have to ignore everything we saw about Carol until second half of ep 8 and then it's like what show are we even watching.Guest wrote: ↑53 minutes agoOne of the things I excepted and was completely wrong about, and I think is important: Manousos did not hate Carol. Yeah, they bickered and argued. But he still 100% believed she was on his team, just not on the same page about the particulars.
In the show universe, he is the biggest anti-hive stickler. And knows EVERYTHING about Carol and her relationship with them. He asked detailed and specific questions. But even after learning all that, after she shoved him in a trunk, he was still like "well ok let's get to work!"
If this super rigid guy can understand what Carol was going through and still believe she's a fundamentally good person, just led astray, I think we can assume that audience is meant to get that impression too.
I do think it makes a lot more sense in the context of the original planned ending where she is a double agent. It's more consistent with her characterization and would still represent a ambiguous desire to "have her cake and eat it too" -- yes, she would be doing something wrong by taking what the hive offers her, but able to internally justify it by doing it for the right reasons.
So blame Sony, I guess.

DA I feel the same way but I believe they can fix things in S2 and get her back on track. What really bothered was the selfishness they had her displaying in the late episodes, I totally understand she's a reluctant hero that went through a severe peiod of suicidal isolation and ostracizing by the other unjoined, but even when she was going through hell having to mourn Helen while adapting to this new world in the first 6 episodes she still displayed convictions and morals of wanting to save everyone. I never thought she would reach a point (at least not as early as S1) of being okay with no individuality and comfortable with humanity being doomed to starve to death while trapped in a Hivemind as long she got to keep her dream woman and iher own individuality intact.Guest wrote: ↑46 minutes agoI respect Rhea a lot and she again truthfully telegraph all of Carols actions and emotions that the writers put on page but this is the limitation of actors where they just have to act out whatever story writers tell no matter how absurd the arc might be.
